Ensembles

Concert Band

The GHS Concert Band meets as a class during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the Fall, students focus on the fundamentals of playing their instruments, music theory and perform a Winter Concert in December. In the Spring semester, students learn music for Concert Performance Assessment, Solo and Ensemble, and a Spring Concert.

Percussion Ensemble

The GHS Percussion Ensemble is made up of percussion students and wind players who desire to learn a percussion instrument. Percussion Ensemble meets as a class during both semesters. Students learn the many different percussion instruments and the techniques required to perform them. Students will perform at both the Winter and Spring Concerts.

Jazz Band/Combo

The GHS Jazz Ensemble meets after school after marching band season in the Fall and every Tuesday in the Spring. Students learn different jazz and improvisation techniques. Students will perform at the Winter and Spring concerts. Jazz is open to all GHS students who have an interest in learning Jazz.

Golden Eagle Marching Band

The GHS Golden Eagle Marching Band is the largest and loudest school spirit organization on campus! Students rehearse during the Summer and after school during the Fall semester. The Marching Band attends all football games and Saturday competitions during September and October. Marching Band includes winds, percussion, and color guard and is open to all GHS band students.

Meet Our Directors and Staff

Kadin Ivey

Kadin Ivey is a native of Union, South Carolina and is the Director of Bands at Greenwood High School. Kadin received his Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Instrumental Music Education and was an Honors Program Graduate from Charleston Southern University in 2019. While attending CSU, Kadin participated in the following ensembles:  Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, “Pride of the Lowcountry” Marching Band, Basketball “Sixth Man” Pep Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Saxophone Quartet, and Steel Pan Ensemble. Kadin served as Drum Major of the “Pride of the Lowcountry” for two years. He was a member of the Collegiate National Association for Music Education, CSU Chapter 751 and was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honors Society and Alpha Chi National College Honors Society. Kadin studied saxophone with Prof. Mark Sterbank and studied under Dr. Marshall Forrester and Dr. Nicholas Holland. He is currently pursuing his Master of Music in Music Education from Anderson University. 

After graduation, Kadin maintains an active performance schedule. He is a member of Carolina Winds and plays with the South Main Baptist Church orchestra. In addition, he has performed with the Charleston Wind Symphony, Erskine Jazz Band, and Capital City Big Band. In 2023, Kadin was invited to be the clinician for the Region 3 Alternate Band in Fort Mill, SC. Kadin resides in Greenwood, SC, and is married to Katie Beth Ivey.

Michael Anderson

Originally from Spartanburg, SC, Michael displayed an undeniable passion for music from a young age. He began his marching band journey at Dorman High School, where he first fell in love with the activity. While in high school, he performed up and down the east coast from Orlando to New York. Michael is a graduate of Anderson University, holding a degree in Music Education.

As the visual coordinator of the Greenwood High School Marching Band, Michael is responsible for the marching and movement aspects of marching band. He also assists with the winds during music rehearsals. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, he strives to uplift the band’s overall performance and spirit.

Outside of marching band, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife, friends, and family, gaming, gardening, going to cons and fairs, and making jewelry. He has two dogs, Tracer and Bobbles, and a cat Mr. Business.

Kendal Agnew

Ms. Agnew is the Music Teacher at Mathews Elementary school. She is in her third year of teaching. Prior to that, she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. While at Carolina, she performed with the Mighty Sound of the Southeast at football and basketball games serving in leadership roles such as Senior Staff and Section Leader.  In her spare time, she loves reading, riding her bike, and playing with her cat. Ms. Agnew has worked with the Greenwood High School Eagle Band for the past two years as an Instrumental and Colorguard instructor.

Samuel Walburn

Samuel Walburn is a 2022 Honor Graduate of White Knoll High School. While at White Knoll, Samuel performed with the White Knoll High School Marching Pride, Indoor Percussion, Jazz Bands, Concert Bands, and Percussion Ensemble. He served as the President of the White Knoll Band and Front Ensemble Captain for Indoor Percussion. During his time at White Knoll, the Marching Band was a two-time runner up at SCBDA State Marching Championships, and Percussion Ensemble performed at the SCMEA Professional Development Conference.

Samuel is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at Lander University. He is a performer in the Lander Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, “University Singers” Choir, and is pursuing a leadership role in the Lander Basketball Pep Band.
